today. >> let's get right over to lynette charles and you had a really interesting stat. not only did we have the rain and snow and sleet and ice and everything, it got pretty warm yesterday. >> oh, yeah about 80 degrees and -- 70 degrees and 72 was the record set back in 1914. just two degrees off that. very warm day. led to that severe weather that we saw. and we are still dealing with it this morning. we do have coastal flood advisory for the areas here shaded in the light blue color and still dealing with flood warnings basically around montgomery county and frederick county for the streams and also the creeks across that area. as we go through the rest of today, things will dry out. this is definitely some good news. just some light rain showers now across the eastern shore. but our big story will be the fact that we are going to be dealing with the windy conditions as we go through the rest of today. so we do have a wind advisory that's in effect until 6:00 for all the areas here shaded in the gray color. let's send this over to megan and charlie. you went to sleep with the tornado watch and this morning you're waking up with flood warnings out there.

roads are closed because of all the water that fell overnight. some severe rains out there and we sent out abc2 news linda so out on york road the morning with the very latest. and linda what are you seeing out there? >> reporter: well, chances are you heard all that rain. and this is what it's done to the roads this morning. we're here along york road where it meets chundley. this truck is manned right here to direct people into one lane on york road. because of all this water. it is completely flooded the intersection here. they have a high water sign up. and this is basically the story along several roads in our area. we put out a call to several dispatch centers this morning and they tell us area roads are flooded because of all the rain we got out -- we got overnight. and as you're getting ready for work, getting the kids ready for school, keep in mind you want to maybe head out a little early because your normal route may be detoured because these roads are shut off. remember no matter how shallow the water may seem, you never want to drive through standing water. again, here at the corner of

york and chundley. traffic moving along just fine this morning. keep in mind though, it's still dark and not all these roads may be marked. that's -- there is flooding in the area. so you just want to keep that in mind. take your time this morning. some of your roads may be blocked off because of the flooding. and all the rain we got overnight. just keep in? mind and be careful. we're live in towson, linda so, abc2 news. well, that's good advice linda. never drive through standing water and you never know how deep it is. flooding is a problem right now across the region. we have flooding in 97 in anne arundel county at both directions at hoods mill road and more problems in carroll county. be extra careful on 795 right at main street. in baltimore county you want to be careful in cockeysville height on western run road at western road. as well as york road at sherwood road. 83 going to be clear and as we check in and actually take a look at the west side of the beltway here at liberty road you'll notice everything moving right along. just 11 minutes right now to travel the outer loop from 795 down to 95.

as we take a look at the other abc2 timesaver traffic drive times, the east side of the beltway no problems to report there. 11 minute ride from 95 all the way up to 83. and that outer loop. and 95 in white marsh no concerns traveling southbound from route 43 down to the beltway. that stretch will take you just four minutes. that's a look at your morning commute. megan and charlie, over to you. news time 5:33. we have breaking news this morning out of baltimore city. one person is dead and officials say an early morning fire is to blame. that fire broke out just before 5:00 this morning on north rosedale street. that's in southwest baltimore. we have a reporter heading to the scene right now. and we'll have more for you as she gets there. another big story is of course and ravens and you don't have to look hard in the baltimore area to see purple haze. many people are crazy for the ravens as they prepare for sunday's super bowl. for example the natty bow store in fell's point. they are helping spread the purple fever with every kind of ravens' merchandise you could possibly need. and others are stringing lights if their homes, businesses --

best tailgating spots in and around the area. and break down everything you can expect come super bowl sunday. the whole thing kicks off at 7:00. 5:35 and news around the nation, the 5-year-old boy is still being held hostage in a bunker in alabama. police say that the boy was taken tuesday when a man boarded the school bus in alabama and killed the bus driver. authorities have been able to talk to the suspect and they're doing that through a pvc pipe that extends out of the bunker. they've also sent down prescription medicine for the child who has asperger's syndrome. investigators say that boy has not been harmed. a chicago teenager who performed in her school band at the president's inauguration last week is dead this morning. she said that the inauguration performance was the happiest day of her life. one week later, 15-year-old hadiya pendleton was shot in the back while hanging out with friends at a park near her school. she and a group of her friends were taking shelter from a rain when someone opened fire. her family and friends met last night at the spot where she was

killed. her father spoke directly to the gunman as her 10-year-old younger brother shed tears. >> just look at yourself. look at yourself and just know that you took a bright person, an innocent person, a non- violent person. >> police called for the community to help find the person who killed pendleton. it was supposed to be a mediation session but ended with a person dead and one of them wounded. this happened in phoenix. and police say the suspect is a 70-year-old man who had been in a contract dispute. police are still looking for him this morning. well, most kids love to play with lego asks can build a lot of things with them. we're not talking about just kids. adults can do it too. but a 35-year-old boy in massachusetts is now facing a school suspension for what he built with his legos. joe cruz made a toy gun out of legos at an afterschool program. the teacher sent him home with a letter threatening the 5-year- old with a two week suspension. >> it was absurd. i can't believe that they were

the forecast this morning with meteorologist lynette charles. >> but things are finally try to calm down a bit in terms of the wet weather. i am concerned with maybe a few power outages today because of the saturated ground and the winds gusting as high as they are. on the backside of the system will be windy and also we'll get some snow in here as well. we zoom in and things clearing out nicely just a few clouds still hovering across the area. also the clouds will begin to decrease as we go through the day as well. but the wind direction, it will be out of the west and that wind speed will be about 15 to 25 miles an hour sustained. with gusts up to about 50 miles an hour. so be prepared for that. we'll talk about what the weekend hold tsz for you coming. let's get a check now of the abc2 timesaver traffic with lauren cook. good morning. good morning lynette. a crash has just cleared on 95. it's been moved to the northbound shoulder right approaching route 32. you will want to expect delays in the area. we are dealing with a lot of flooding this morning. be careful in anne arundel county right on 97 at hoods mill road. more problems in carroll county. you want to be particularly

well, ray lewis is trying to put the whole deer antler splay issue to rest. he spoke again about the si article claiming he asked for the spray which includes a banned substance by the nfl. he said again he didn't use the deer antler spray or any banned substance for that matter. the ravens are not letting the story distracts them at all. >> for me and my teammates i promise you. we have a strong group of men that we don't -- we don't bend

was over and will probably feel the same way after the super bowl. five things to know on this thursday morning. attorneys in the case against 15-year-old robert gladden will be back in court today. his defense lawyer argued yesterday that he should be tried in juvenile court. glad season accused of shooting a classmate on the first day after school. jurors in the phylicia barnes' murder trial heard testimony from the prosecution's star witness. james lee claims he saw barnes' dead body in michael johnson's apartment back in 2010. johnson was charged with the teen's murder and his lawyer tries to discredit lee. nomination hearings begin today for former senator chuck hagel. he was nominated by the president to become the secretary of defense. hagel will face tough questions about comments that he's made about israel, hamas, and iran. troubling news this morning about our personal financial security. a new report finds that nearly 44% of americans don't have enough savings upon which they can fall back if they were to lose a job. it also found that nearly a third have no savings at all. secretary of state hillary clinton is giving her final remarks as the head of state

department today. she is going to be speaking about american leadership to the council on foreign relations. clinton officially steps down from the post tomorrow. a huge honor for a group of students at sandy hook elementary school. more than two dozen kids are heading to new orleans and they're scheduled to sing "america the beautiful" just before kickoff on sunday. the kids are survives from the shooting rampage back in -- survivors from the shooting rampage back in december. with the four-legged friends the lab remains top dog. the american kennel club says not only is it the most popular dog in baltimore, it's also the most popular in the country. labrador retriever took the top spot last year too. coming in at number two for baltimore, the golden retriever. on tuesday, we showed you a story of a couple in kansas celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary, nothing to scoff at but a local couple they can apparently do one better. >> actually, they can do two

better. harry and elizabeth say they've been together 72 years. live on a farm in frederick county and now here's a picture of them on their wedding day back in 1940 and this is them today. their granddaughter lee sent us those photographs and the couple will celebrate their 73rd anniversary in october. 73 years. >> well, they look fantastic. and they look very happy congratulations to them. that is such an accomplishment. >> got to get over to the weather right now with meteorologist lynette charles. the very latest on what happened overnight and how it's going to affect our thursday. >> all right, yeah so we do have some flooding still to talk about. lots of ponding on the roadways this morning but the bumming of the rain -- bulk of the rain is pretty much out of here. now we have some very windy conditions and i'm going to say blustery throughout the day. we do have a wind advisory rather that is in effect until 6:00 this evening. temperatures now, they will fall throughout the day. we're at 44 degrees row in bel air and reisterstown at 44. columbia coming in at 46 and stevensville at 48 degrees

right now. and it is going to be a cool day as we go into the afternoon. but rainfall totals still adding up. and we add those on top of what we got yesterday. so we're talking about 4-inches of rain in a lot of spots across the area. now this is what it looks like at the surface. we do have -- this is the one that moved through yesterday that cold front that brought all the rain across the area. the stormy weather and severe weather. but then we're going to have another cold front build in before it's all said and done. and once that happens, we will start to get some snow showers in across the area. so be prepared for that. as we look at abc2's most accurate future trend. what's going on here? i'm going to put it into motion, that system is out of here by 8:00. and then as we go through the overnighttime frame into tomorrow morning, we do have a chance for some light snow showers to develop across the area. it's going to be in and out just like the last two events that we saw. a little clipper system coming in across the area. other than that things will begin to dry out nicely. but we are going to get cold. for today those temperatures

will continue to fall. the clouds will decrease as high pressure builds in briefly. 26 degrees still breezy with the light snow overnight. and then by tomorrow, 35 degrees. much colder with the morning snow showers and then we dry out in the afternoon. and this is what we are left with on saturday. still very cold. temperatures coming in below average at 36. and our next crack at some snow comes in here as we go into sunday. let's get a check now of the abc2 timesaver traffic with lauren cook. good morning. good morning lynette. well, flooding is going to be the main concern right now on the roads. if you're traveling in baltimore county, we have some reports in windsor mill that's right on dogwood road at ridge road. in cockeysville avoid western run road at western road. as well as york road at sherwood road. if you're traveling in towson more flooding on chumleigh road at york road and here's a live look at 695 in parkville. fortunately everything will be up to speed here at harford road. no delays whatsoever as you travel the plow from 95 -- 95 up to 83.
